MS PAC MAN RED BALL TOP 4 WAY JOYSTICK JAMMA MAME ARCADE 1 UP NEW SPACE ACE:
$31.03

TORNADO TERRYS
THIS sale IS FOR 1 RED JOYSTICK, DOES NOT COME WITH WIRING OR TERMINAL CONNECTORS, JUST WHAT IS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE!
THIS WILL NOT FIT THE 1 UP HEAD TO HEAD COCKTAIL!
The truth about joysticks&ALL PAC MAN style games:There are :8 way joysticks, "Competition" and "Ultimates" that do 8 way only. There are "Supers" that will do 4 and 8 way. There are 4 way only "Ultimate" joysticksThen there are OUR Happ BASED dedicated 4 way sticks that , YOU GEUESSED IT, do 4 way only.
Seems pretty straight forward right? No its not. Follow along and educate yourself:
There is no "universal remote" when it comes to joysticks. First you have to understand that because all joysticks are not created the same, they will in fact not operate the same.
Meaning, an 8 way dedicated sticks cannot, will not ever, EVER, do what the 4 way only designed joystick will do-ANYONE WHO TELLS you differently is either uniformed or LYING through their teeth!
They will work mostly, but not completely. This is due to our favorite games called Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Pac Man plus, Pac Man Jr. and Super Pac Man's original programming. If you don't play Pac Man games and don't care about them, buy any old joystick and throw in your machine and your good. I know if you are reading this your like "come on get to the point" !
OK here it is, the way Pac Man programs are written, any version of Pac Man machines will disregard any "new direction" switch that is introduced by player input until the FIRST switch is disengaged. This is why you constantly miss turns using an 8 way stick. You never had this problem while playing an original dedicated Pac Man game with an original joystick did you? That's because it wont allow another switch to be engaged unless you were off the original direction switch, its physically impossible to do so, by mechanical design.
Ok that covers why the 8 way won't work, but then there are the 4 & 8 way Supers and the Ultimate 4 way. The Supers and Ultimate 4 way have a round joystick shaft control design when it comes to allowing the joystick to move from switch to switch.
Problem: The Super allows the joystick to move in a circular motionwhile in 4 way mode, this stick is designed to be an 8 way stick too and this round approach is needed to allow 2 switches at once for 8 way operation while in 8 way mode (uses 2 switches to get diagonal directions). Being in 4 way mode does allow most games to work properly and even Pac Man will work pretty good as it does eliminate the problem of "ignoring the next switch", (mentioned in the above 1st paragraph), but, because it has the round motion, that is not a straight line IT MEANS YOU ARE LATE TO THE NEXT MOVE BECAUSE IT TOOK THE LONG WAY. That small amount of time is just enough for you to miss the turn.
The Ultimate has a circular motion as well but has a smaller diameter switch actuation cone to allow 4 way only but suffers from the non straight line approach same as the Super. Basiclly it was cheaper for Happ to change the cone than invent a dedicated 4 way joystick with a bat handle. (which I do sell by the way on one of my other sales) .

Remember, a straight line from point A to point B is shorter than a curved line. This is a slight difference and I know your saying that can't possibly be of any consequence, but it definitely is. If you take the long road (curved) from point A to B , you WILL miss a turn in a heated game of any version of Pac Man, and its worse on the fast versions. That slight difference is the difference in making the turn and not. The dedicated 4 way that we sell will only allow you to go from point A to point B in a straight line thereby making it do EXACTLY what the original joystick did. This also means ALL of your 4 way games will function just as they are supposed to as well. Also remember that all 4 way games were designed with, you guessed it, a dedicated 4 way only joystick.
You question: Why will OTHER GAMES work when the Pac Man games won't? That's because all other 4 way games besides Pac Man style are programmed to accept new directional input and forget about the directional switch you were using. This is why most of those game will work even with an 8 way. Keep in mind that our Pac Man stick will not ever do 8 way-ever!
So, I want you to have the best stick you can get for playing all versions of Pac Man games and I tell you this so you won't waste time and money on someone else's stick that they claim will work. Save yourself the frustration of wasting time, shipping cost, and effort only to wind up buying my stick because you can't play Pac Man right. This is my 2 cents worth coming from my 37 year experience dealing with PAC MAN games.
I tell all of my customers," If you miss a move with my joystick, it's your fault!TerryORDER OF ASSEMBLY:TORNADO TERRYS

Dust washer on shaft - lip up.3. 1st E clip on shaft.4. Black pivot cone big end towards base.5. Install into base.6. White cone big end towards base.7. Install last E clip as directed.8. Shows which terminals are used to make your connections.1 up users:
READ ALL DIRECTIONS FIRSTFor retrofitting this stick into arcade 1 up cabs you will need new 3/4 inch screws and 2 small flat washers per screw and it will fit nicely. The factory screws are too short and the hole pattern is not the same but when you are done its perfect!
REMOVE JOYSTICK:Cut the wires from the existing stick at the stick, there are 2 wires to each position. make sure not to get the wires mixed up. You should have have 4 colors of wire. Make a note of the color wire VS its direction, up, down left right. After the cut you will have 2 wires for each color or a total of 8 wires.
CONNECTIONS:After securing the new joystick base in place, you will be using the ODD terminal marked COM of each switch and the closest one to the COM terminal to make the connections for the new stick, Do not use the last terminal. You will also need .187 push on connectors, a pair of crimpers and a pair of strippers,(No not that kind LOL !), DO NOT SOLDER the terminals, you will ruin the spring inside the switches!
Strip the ends of the wires and crimp a .187 terminal on to each of the wires you just cut. Repeat for the other 3 switches, I suggest you only do 2 wires at a time.Plug the wires on to the new joystick, It does not matter which wire goes whereas long as you use the ODD terminal and the onenextto it. See picture marked 8
The farthest terminal from the odd terminal is not used
GALAGA 1 up users, you can use this stick to do Galaga 1 upWe have sold 100's of these since that machine was released with no comebacks and the folks that did contact us told us we were recommended on REDDIT for this stick and they were very happy with it!Enjoy!
