DESCRIPTION:Very rare and absolutely outstanding. If it had its original lid, it would have never made it back down to earth, as the gods would have kept it for their own personal, private use. Offered for your review and consideration is this simply terrific, early to mid 19th century American antique primitive hand painted wood staved kerosene oil large bucket, with a bent wire handle, featuring a lathe-turned wood hand grasp. The wire handle pivots on a looped wire fastener, nailed into the sidewalls of the bucket. The semi-transparent red paint (most likely milk paint) is original and the charcoal black curved stenciling, which says \'Kerosene Oil\' on the top half of the front sidewall, is also original. The staved wood sidewalls are reinforced by three tin tightening bands, for which all are intact and remain largely where they\'ve always been, at the top, mid-section and bottom of the pail. The original lid is now missing but it\'s hardly a loss with the choice red painted sidewalls and charcoal stenciling. A metal alloy spigot is located at the bottom front. A killer American antique primitive pail! Caution: This rare animal takes no prisoners. Truly outstanding in more than one way.
CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
