MID-20TH CENTURY, POST-WWII AMERICAN VINTAGE, LARGE 19\" in HEIGHT,FAUX BRONZE PAINTED HOLLOW POLYMER, AMORPHIC ABSTRACT FEMALE TORSO SCULPTURE, featuring EPISODES of VERDIGRIS & GOLD PATINA,on BLACK PLINTH BLOCK BASE with BLACK FELT COVER & BRASS RODSUPPORTING STEM[If you didn\'t touch it, you wouldn\'t know it wasn\'t bronze but in fact \'faux bronzed,\' painted polymer. For that reason, this mid-century,faux bronze polymer American Modernist vintage amorphic, abstract figurative sculpture, featuring the torso of a woman mounted on a brass rod & atop a black plinth block base, is exceptionally realized & very artistically accomplished. It\'s lightweight & most importantly, affordable. This is why during the 1960\'s & 1970\'s,fineart & sculpture production houses sought to recreate fine art & sculpture for the growing American middle-class, who found themselves in new homes & who desperately wanted to decorate them, but were not able to pay for real bronze Modernist sculpture, which inspired this reproduction. It was simply a question of cost, where real bronze sculpture could be valued in the thousands of dollars, whereas these polymer sculpture reproductions were valued in the low hundreds. It\'s virtually undamaged and appears to have been made in the early 1970\'s to as late as the 1980\'s. The form is splendid & it evokes a hollowed out gourd, with heavily textured surfaces. But the real story is in the faux bronze surface coloring. It sure fooled me. Very handsome. Monumental. Why pay a fortune for a bronze when you can almost have the real thing? We won\'t tell anyone what sits on your fireplace mantle or credenza is really a faux bronze polymer figurative sculpture.
