The period reflected in thephotographs presented here of the 20th century Michigan Central (NYC) spans 30years, a company in various stages of transition from the 1940s through theearly Penn Central years. The period spanned the administrations of Gustav Metzman, William White, RobertYoung, and Alfred Perlman, and each of these men was leading a company whichwas in trouble, despite outward appearances. Famedphotographer Emery Gulash takes the reader out on his home turf to photographthe ever-changing scene on the New York Central Michigan Central trackage from1940 right up to the 1968 Penn Central merger.Emery Gulash was trackside in theseyears to record in color these last decades of the Michigan Central.
