Scarce as Hardcover. 1935. Ashram Press. Chicago. 9.5”x 6.5” x 1”. 20.4 oz. 257 pages


Condition:

Fair

Spine shows lots of wear as well as both boards. Spine with fading green in some spots. Part of back cover design with some chipping. Shelfworn, Edges bumped. Bottom right edge of front board has open tear. Stains, soiling on covers. Front endpapers with some stains. Label from previous owner, my dearly departed(2017) partner, Scott Postelnek on front free endpaper. Numbers written next to label, appears to be pencil. Pages aged toning. All other pages are clean and intact. No writing or underlining. No tears. Pages noted with some darkened areas and scratches. Back Endpapers with some marks. Inside of Backcover with some stains. Edge of back cover has dent on the fore edge. Back cover has some scratches on the green cloth.

Poster attached between page 320 and 321. Small tear noted. Otherwise still folded in place.


Condition: Fair


Spine noted with shelfwear. Some fading of spine. Appears to have been a library book. Residue left on spine and boards from label removal. Due to label removal by a previous owner, pieces of spine and boards have been scraped, which removed blue color of the covers and spine. Edgewear and rubbing. Front Cover is bent at the edges, which left some creases. Crease on front cover vertical to spine. Back cover with some scratches and marks. Binding loose but intact. Pages clean and intact. No writing or underlining noted. Front and barber edges with some fading. Pages with toning.

Spine has lots of shelfwear. Creases noted. Library label on spine. Fraying and some tears on Spine. Open and Closed tears on Front and Back Covers. Aging and toning present. Stains and Marks present. Separation at hinge, but still intact. Binding shows book has been well read. Inside front cover and front free end paper has personalized stamp with name of a previous owner. Pages clean. No writing or underlining, appears clean. Some pages have been folded at the top right side. Last page seems to be glued to inside back cover. That page has mark at bottom, appears to be part of typed ink.

Spine has lots of shelfwear. Fading noted on spine and at top and bottom. Shelfwear noted. Part of book cover on spine worn, can see original cloth cover. Library label on spine. Scratches and some nicks of cloth seen on Spine. Aging and toning present. Some Stains and Marks present. Binding tight and intact. Inside front cover has library label from Scottish Rite Cathedral Association. The name on the label is my dearly departed (2017) partner, Scott Postelnek. He was a Mason. He purchased this library book at Cathedral after an event to celebrate Scottish Rite moving to another location. This was about 12 years ago. Free front end paper has a few marks, possibly due to rubbing against library label over time. Title Page has embossed stamp of Scottish Rite Cathedral Assn. Library. Second Title Page has black stamp of Scottish Rite Cathedral Assn. Library., Chicago, Illinois. Pages clean. No writing or underlining. Pages with aging toning. Paper edges do have some scratches. Some pages unopened.






Scarce first edition of this adventure novel about Freemasonry by Carl H. Claudy (1879-1957), who was a journalist, sci-fi author, and sometime writer for DC Comics. Slight browning, rubbing to the covers. First edition. 5¼" - 7½".
