The four cards are shown in a clear plastic postcard protector sleeve (which is included).

After extensive research, I believe you may actually be buying the only surviving copies of this company's chromo cards. It's a set of four matched cards, each with a different image, all in brilliant color. These are original cards, not reproductions. They are lithographed on standard 3.5" x 5.5" postcard stock; however, the backs were left blank. They say "Compliments of Anchor Rubber Co.," which indicates they were meant to be distributed with some of their products -- possibly their novelty balloons.

The original Anchor Rubber Co. itself is almost lost to history. Records from around 1919 mention two or three different locations where they tried to establish manufacturing plants in Eastern Ohio, but it seems they were the victims of at least one major fire. Their offices were apparently in Pittsburgh (across the Pennsylvania state line), as these cards show.

These were purchased at sale (just a few miles south of the Pennsylvania border) from the estate of a businessman who had a very large collection of fine antique postcards.

[ CONDITION... ]

- Beautiful antique condition -- from a non-smoking environment.

- No signs of abuse, no marks or folds, and no moisture damage.

- Some ghosting on the back, which appears to be from the printing process.

The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique items always show their age. (Don't we all!?) It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that there will be something about this item (or lot) that's not perfect and may need touch-up.
