A set of unique, incredibly rare postcards in this lot. Date range appears to be 1914-1922.
Postcards are in very good collectible condition and originate from a huge, well taken care of collection.
The French Army played a crucial role in World War I, enduring immense hardships and contributing significantly to the Allied victory. Organized into multiple corps and divisions, the army was initially led by General Joseph Joffre, followed by Generals Robert Nivelle and Philippe Pétain. Key battles included the Marne, Verdun, the Somme, and the Second Battle of the Marne. The French pioneered trench warfare, artillery tactics, camouflage, and the use of poison gas. Despite suffering over a million casualties and experiencing significant economic strain and mutinies in 1917, the French Army, under Pétain's reforms, restored morale and continued to fight effectively. They worked closely with British, American, and other Allied forces, leading to the eventual Armistice on November 11, 1918, marking the end of the war.
