Lot 5 Vintage Hiking Drink Mixes: Gatorade + Gookinaid E.R.G. + Kool-Aid ~ NOS:

My dad, upon hitting "old age," finally decided to give up his camping gear. In amongst it all was an instant blast from the past: a sealed ziplock full of unopened packets of Gatorade, Gookinaid E.R.G. and Koolaid.
The Gatorade packets especially are cool, and this lot includes two of the reflective packets, which are orange and pink in color. Also included: a non-reflective orange Gatorade packet, as well as a "Gookinaid E.R.G." and a grape Kool-Aid packet.
After a long hike up to the fire lookout at Mt Baker, we'd open the Gatorade packet. The memory is visceral: a fabulous hit of sweetness to flavor water!One of the early sports drinks (maybe the first?) we'd buy it at REI before heading out hiking.
According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatorade, it was originally developed in 1962 at the University of Florida to help their football team (the Gators) with electrolytes. There's been a revolution in electrolyte drinks since then and the creation of a whole industry.

All of these items were purchased from REI in Seattle in 1995 or before. Note the REI stickers.
