◇History of Umeyama Kiln◇
Tobe ware has a long history, with porcelain production beginning in 1775.
Baizan Kiln was opened by Umeno Masagoro in 1882 and has grown through trade not only within Japan but also overseas, particularly with Southeast Asia, India, and America.
In order to rebuild after the Pacific War, from 1953 to 1959, Umeno Takenosuke received guidance from Mingei movement advocates Yanagi Muneyoshi, Hamada Shoji, Tomimoto Kenkichi, Suzuki Shigeo, and Fujimoto Yoshimichi, and through repeated trial and error with Sawada Jun, Iwahashi Setsu, Kudo Shoji and others, perfected Baizan Kiln\'s unique handmade, hand-painted techniques.
Even today, the kiln continues to produce practical crafts in pursuit of \"use and beauty.\"
