Dear Brother,
Your letter of the 11th I received last Wednesday in which you speak of your passage to Fort Monroe, and that you had suffered from the cold, and I have felt some anxiety for fear that you might have take cold on that trip as you would be very susceptible to cold after having the measles, but I hope for the best. ______ in thinking of you I am wondering where you might be at this present time. By this time you must have landed or are trying to land perhaps today as this very time you are engaged in battle. May God be with you and protect you. I anxiously look forward the news from the expedition. We must get some thing from it today I am sure. The impressions seem to be strong that it will enter Pamlico sound, and force its way into Albermarle Sound having to take Roanoke island on its passage, which is fortified and well defended by 3000 rebels. But we shall know in a very few days all about. The money sent has been received $20 from you , $30 from Robert, $20 from Oscar and $15 from Mr. Dutcher. Yours I have not yet deposited in the savings bank but shall before the other quarter commences.John Q Thayer has been troubled with sore eyes but is better now and expects to start to join the company next Monday. The sleighing is very fine, but it is raining now and we shall probably lose it. I have been skating two evenings this week. I cannot go in the daytime because I have no one to stay in the store you know. I shall send the Enquirer today.Write as often as possible. I wrote to you last Monday.
Your Aff Brother,
A.G. Ferriss
