This very evocative photo of a Japanese rural village scene takes one back to a totally different era in the history of Japan. It features villagers in front of large beautifully crafted thatched roof homes with farm families standing or sitting in the middle distance with a wooden wheeled cart, possibly a grinding wheel and a figure in a kimono. The photo is 8\" x 10\" and is mounted on an old stiff piece of pale green paper. There is light foxing on the edges of the photo and overall light toning. I think the photo dates to 1880 or earlier.
