This is a Large Vintage Norwegian Rosemaling Style Folk Art Hand Painted Oval Box.

This elaborate Norwegian Hand Painted Rosemaling Style bentwood oval band box is quite exceptional. This folk art painting is similar to tole painting.

The box is large and measures 16” long, 10 1/2” tall, 6 1/2” wide.

The artist signed her initials with flourishes on the lid incorporating the initials into the painting design. The exquisite hand painting features tulip style fantasy flowers with leaf sprays to the front and a vine border of fantasy flowers framing the oval lid.

The box is in excellent vintage old condition. It possibly dates to the 1960s.

The lid and base wood were bent to form the oval shape. The box is very sturdy, and strong having thick wood structure.

The interior and underneath the lid, were lined with traditional Country Style cotton fabrics trimmed with ribbon and lace. The lid and interior bottom were also padded under the red and cream cotton check gingham.

The interior has a very strong scent of Fabreze or some kind of fabric softener?? The scent is noticeable when the lid is off, but not when the box is closed. That is fine. People with allergies please take note.

This box is a stunning and eye-catching Farmhouse, Rustic Cabin, or Country Home Decor item and would look fabulous on the top of a Country Step Back Cupboard or Hutch. The hand painting is the focal point of this wood box. The five subtle colors of red, blue, green, salmon and gold mimic the 19th century milk paint used to decorate hand made antique furniture and home accessories.
