History of Die Cuts: \"Duringthe Victorian Era (1837-1901), middle-class households would often have afamily scrap album, where the bits of paper collected each day couldbecollagesonto its thick pages.Ticketstubs,brochures,greeting cards, newspaper clippings,paper dolls,postcards, business cards, ribbons,literary excerpts, and eventuallyphotographswereallpreserved on the pages of these memory books.In response tothescrap bookingtrend, 19th-century bookmakers designed blankalbums with elaborate, tooled-leather covers, gilt paper edgings, and engravedclasps. The earliest materials explicitly produced as die-cut “scrap” fordecorating homemade albums were black-and-white, hand-colored etchings.
