$9.99

Ardmore is an unincorporated community and census-designate place is a suburb on the west side of Philadelphia within Lower Merion in Montgomery County and Haverford Township in Delaware County. Originally named “Athensville” in 1853, the community and its railroad station were renamed “Ardmore” in 1873 by the Pennsylvania Railroad, on whose Main Line west out of Philadelphia, Ardmore sits at Milepost 8.5. Lower Merion Senior High School is a public high school in Ardmore. It was founded in 1894 with the consolidation of the area’s three village high schools and began it first year in a stone building shared with the Ardmore Avenue Elementary School. In 1897, nine students participated in the school’s first commencement ceremony. The original high school faculty had seven members, including the principal and superintendent. The high school moved out of the elementary school to new quarters designed and constructed at the present site of 245 Montgomery Avenue. Dedicated December 2, 1911, “Lower Merion Senior High School” was an impressive granite and stone edifice considered to be one of the finest new educational facilities in the state. The 17-acre property, complete with three stone-arch entrances, landscaped grounds, and a football stadium, eventually grew to 23 acres. At its opening, twenty-one staff members were employed under principal “Professor” Charles B. Pennypacker. By 1940, the teaching staff had expanded to 61 and the total student enrollment was 1461. The original 1910 building was demolished in 1963 and replaced by a new classroom structure designed by H.A. and Co. In 2004 it was determined that the “new” 40-year-old facilities no longer met the standards needed and a new school building was constructed on the same site, opening by the start of the 2010 academic year.
This linen was published by “Ruth Murray Miller” who printed color collotypes with soft focus from 1929 to 1939. Her cards were mainly of the mid-Atlantic states. This card captures the second version of “Lower Merion Senior High School”, the first building to be built, in 1910, specifically for the High School. It is in good condition with intact corners and edges and a clean, clear image and reverse. (my scanner had gone a little cyan crazy. the colors on the card are not so blue.)
If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment..... Free Shipping World Wide. Thank you for your interest and I hope that I can help you with your collection.....
