LATE 19TH to EARLY 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN FOLK ART/TRAMP ART PRIMITIVE ANTIQUE INLAID WOODEN JEWELRY BOX, featuring LIGHT & DARK TROPICAL & DOMESTIC HARDWOODS, HAND-CUT, INLAID WOODEN PIECES with POTTED FLOWERS, SPADES, HEARTS& DIAMONDS GRAPHIC ICONOGRAPHY & SMALL INTERIOR MIRROR INSET on LID'S UNDERSIDE[For your review & consideration is this recently discovered on the South Shore of Massachusetts, late 19th to early 20th century American folk art, New England primitive antique Tramp art, hand carved, inlaid tropical & domestic hardwood jewelry or trinket box, featuring potted, blooming flowers, spades, hearts & diamonds graphic iconography. The box has butt-joined corners & is decidedly more folksy & primitive than it is finely rendered. But this is its intrinsic allure & what makes it highly desirable & attractive. The box has a hinged lid that's nearly the same dimensions as the box's sidewalls. The lid doesn't close completely against the box's front sidewall but nearly does. There's no wood loss, noticeable, deep abrasions or depreciating stains to the wood surfaces. The box appears to have been previously lightly lacquered. The wood cut-outs are whimsical & well realized but allude to the fact that this box was perhaps produced not by a cabinetmaker but by a male suitor or sailor, as a gift & token of his enduring love & admiration for her, while away.
