Description

Up for for Consideration is a Rare Scottish Infantry Officer's Brass Basket Hilt Sword / Broadsword
(Ca. 1790-1815 )

c1790's-1815

The Scottish basket hilt has become one of the most sought-after swords for collectors. It is easy to understand why this is so. The shape and feel of an original highland broadsword is like no other sword. Add to this the inevitable myth and romance associated with such swords, and you will find an area of collecting where competition to acquire good examples is very high indeed.
This particular Scottish Brass Basket Hilt Broadsword dates to the late 18th to early 19th century. This is the classic Scottish sword design used by British and Highland troops from the Revolutionary War period up until early 20th century.
The Sword is 39 inches in total with a 33-inch double edge blade. The blade is a double edge broad sword design with double fullers on the ricasso and running down the remainder of the blade.
No Maker Marks present.
This Scottish Basket Hilt broadsword is in amazing as found condition with nice balanced toning, a hint of light pitting and some small areas of surface rust which can easily be polished off if need be. A Beautiful and undamaged intact brass guard and hilt with leather covered wood grip.

The hilt is intricate and of excellent quality. The handle is the iconic Highlanders style.

There is absolutely No looseness or wobbling in the handle and the basket guard is in great condition.

A Very Rare an Exceptional Addition to Any Sword or Military Collection.
