LARGE! GEM QUALITY DOUBLE-TERMINATED CALCITE Crystals on MATRIX of Barite, Sphalerite and minor Dolomite. This specimen is of the very RARE Scalenohedral Habit of CALCITE CRYSTALS. Also Rare because from a now closed mine about forty years ago. (Elmwood Mine was reopened in 2010 by a consortium that tried to bring zinc profits again but after 13 years closed the mine in 2023 and unlikely will reopen again). Specimen was part of an Award Winning Display at many Northwest Gem and Mineral events. Very solid throughout for long term durability for Display and sets very calm with 360 degrees of ShowTime Brilliance when setting on the Matrix as the base. High Gloss Surfaces and perfect lines, edges, multiple terminations plus uniform light yellowish colorations. Backlighting demonstrates the amazing translucency of this specimen. Yes this is a world-class museum piece! There are internal inclusions that are normal in these large RARE and finely created specimens from Nature\'s ART Gallery. This specimen was mined about a mile below the surface and the heat, moisture and pressures of Geologic Stress affects the formations and internal architecture of these larger types of specimens. The Elmwood Mine was quite Famous during the 1980\'s after discovery of the GEM Quality Calcite (and Gem Quality Fluorite) specimens. The Elmwood Mine was primarily excavated as a zinc mine but was closed and flooded in the late 1990\'s and therefore making these specimens very rare nowadays as great examples of Geologic History. (A consortium reopened the mine in 2010 to bring zinc profits again but after 13 years closed the mine permanently in 2023). Measures about 7.5 in x 3.5 in x 3.5 inches at max margins and main Calcite Crystal about 180 mm x 65 mm x 60 millimeters and the specimen weighs 2 pounds 11.7 ounces.
