Crawford.In their next to the last Big 7Conference game, the Tribe lost toMorristown, 5-0. All the Morris-town runs were unearned, and theIndians were charged with eighterrors.Going into their last Conferencegame, against Johnson City, theIndians had a good chance ofbringing home the All-Sports tro-phy. Coming out of the game onthe short end of a 10-1 score, theTribe was virtually eliminatedfrom the race. Again, all ten runswere unearned, and there were\'al-so eight errors committed, five ofthem in the first inning.In the first round of DistrictTournament play, the Tribesmenran over hapless Church Hill, 12-0.The big gun in the Tribe attackwas Dave Mullins with a grand-slam home run and two hits forthree times at bat.Cross-town rival Ketron shutout the Indians for their first de-feat of the tournament by thescore of 3-0. Sophomore pitcherJohn Wilburn, after pitching hit-less ball and retiring 12 successivebatters, saw his hopes for victoryfall with a muffed pop fly. Tworuns were scored in that inningand one more in the next to roundout the scoring in the game.Bluff City eliminated the Tribefrom the tournament by a two-runmargin of seven to five.
