Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David; 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972), later known as the Duke of Windsor, was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire and Emperor of India from 20 January 1936 until his abdication in December of the same year.

Edward was born during the reign of his great-grandmother Victoria as the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George V and Queen Mary. He was created Prince of Wales on his 16th birthday, seven weeks after his father succeeded as king. As a young man, Edward served in the British Army during the First World War and undertook several overseas tours on behalf of his father. While Prince of Wales, he engaged in a series of sexual affairs that worried both his father and then-British prime minister Stanley Baldwin.

Henry Peter Hansell was born in 1863 the son of Peter Hansell a solicitor and Emily Morgan. He died in 1935. An obituary in The Scotsman on 30 September 1935 reports:

Mr Henry Peter Hansell, formerly tutor to the King\'s sons, died at a nursing home in Bletchingley, Surrey, yesterday, aged 71. He had also been tutor to Prince Arthur of Connaught and to Prince Nicolas of Rumania. Mr Hansell, prior to becoming tutor to the King\'s sons, was an assistant master at a prepatory school and at Rossall School. He had been educated at Malvern and Magdalen College, Oxford, and had done well, but it was the report of Hansell\'s character rather than his intellectual attainments which decided the King\'s choice. He held a number of war appointments.

From 1915 to 1917, he served as an A.B. in the R.N.V.R. Anti-Aircraft Corps, London, and was afterwards Deputy Assistant Director of Labour at G.H.Q.in France. In 1918 Mr Hansell was appointed Staff Captain, Adjutant-General\'s Branch, in France, and subsequently Staff Captain, General Staff Training, France. In 1919, he was appointed Gentleman Usher to the King, and there was general regret in the Royal Household when he decided nine years later to relinquish it. Afterwards, he became an Extra Gentleman Usher. Mr Hansell had been ill for some years. News of his death was sent to Buckingham Palace.

Prince Francis of Teck, GCVO, DSO (Francis Joseph Leopold Frederick; 9 January 1870 – 22 October 1910) was the younger brother of the British queen Mary of Teck, wife of King George V.
