Joseph Pulitzer [1847 1911] was aHungarian-American Jewish newspaper publisher of the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the New York World. Pulitzer introduced the techniques of \'\'new journalism\'\' to the newspapers he acquired in 1880s andbecame a leading national figure in the Democratic Party and was elected as a Congressman from New York.Pulitzer crusaded against big business and corruption and helped tokeep the Statue of Liberty in New York. Today, he is best known for the Pulitzer Prizes which carry his name andwere established by money he bequeathed to Columbia University. The prizes are given annually to award achievements in journalism, photography, literature, history, poetry, music and drama. Listed for sale is a [DS] document signed by JosephPulitzer. The document is a check made payable to The State Savings Association and is dated February 28th, 1882. The check is in the amount of 905.00 dollars and is signed \'\'Joseph Pulitzer\'\' in blackfountain pen. The check is completed entirely in his hand, measures 3.25 x 8.00 inches, it has correct cancellation cuts, trivial toning otherwise itis in fine condition. The check has also beengraded a NM-MT 8 and encapsulated by PSA. The autograph is authentic,and the checkis ideal for a framed display.
