There is a stamp, see photograph.The \"Hatanaka Toishi Company\" of Kyoto has been for generations the premierstone company providing the best sharpening stones from all of the Honyama mines.The Hatanaka Co. were the main outlet of Nakayama stones for years,
they maintained close ties with Mr. Kato, owner of the Nakayama mine.
Eventually Hatanaka becamethe owner of the Nakayama mine.The last Nakayama minings were between 1972-1982 and 1985-1988.

It is extremely stiff, and there islittlesharpening juice.Smooth sharpening, strong abrasive power.

This is one of the few grinding stones in recent years that still has the skin of the original stone on the back.
It is ideal for polishing kitchen knives, carpentry tools (chisels, planes), and straight razor blades (Hagane).
