J. Edgar Hoover sends a typed letter trying to set up a more convenient time for a class to visit.
Typed Letter Signed: \"J. E. Hoover\" as Director of the FBI, 1p, 7x9¼. Washington, D.C., 1937 June 11. To Mr. Russell D. Brackett, Minneapolis, Minnesota. In full: \"Receipt is acknowledged of your letter dated June 2, 1937, in which you advise that the educational trip to Washington has been postponed. I shall be very glad to arrange a tour for your group at some future time if you desire and will advise me in advance of your trip to Washington. Sincerely yours,\" J. Edgar Hoover (1895-1972, born John Edgar Hoover in Washington, DC) served as the first Director of the FBI from 1924 until his death in 1972. During his 48-year term, he restored order to the department and established the world\'s largest fingerprint file and the FBI Academy. The FBI fought organized crime in the Prohibition era. Under his direction, the FBI also infiltrated the American Communist Party, the Ku Klux Klan and other subversive organizations. It also conducted counterintelligence during WWII and the Cold War. By the 1970s, Hoover came under frequent public criticism for his authoritarian administration, but his power was so great that no President dared to remove him. Hoover made the FBI one of the world\'s most effective law enforcement agencies. He established its vast fingerprint file, crime laboratory and training academy. Fold crease not near signature. Shipping - We ship via FedEx and USPS. Shipping charges for multiple orders are combined whenever possible.
