Original Sherlock Holmes
This is a 1988 Peterson Sherlock Holmes "The Original" Pipe, Made in Dublin, Ireland. The chamber is clean and very lightly smoked, looks great. The exterior bowl looks really good, just some finish fading around the edges. I declined to refurbish this by touching up the missing finish. I decided to leave that up to the buyer, due to it being a collector piece. The bowl rim shows no burn or darkening and the chamber is in fine shape. The sterling silver band has the Sherlock Holmes stamp and the Peterson Hallmarks, including the 1988 (C) stamp. The original jet black stem has the Peterson (P) in full silver color and fits firmly into the shank.
The Original design in Peterson's Sherlock Holmes line is a 05 "bell" Calabash. A shape they probably chose based upon the tradition of actors portraying Holmes replacing the Churchwarden (which Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had him smoking in the original text) with a much more manageable gourd Calabash.
The pipe has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and it's ready to be enjoyed with your favorite tobacco.
