Predecessors to the Indiana Glass Company began operations in Dunkirk, Indiana, in 1896 and 1904 during the gas boom.

In 1907, a group of investors led by Frank W. Merry formed the Indiana Glass Company by purchasing the Dunkirk glass plant from the bankrupt National Glass Company.

The company produced pressed, blown, and hand-molded glassware, including tableware, lamps, and vases.

Notably, it manufactured Depression glass, Goofus glass, and Carnival glass.

A&W drive-in chain used Indiana Glass mugs for their root beer.

Kmart was another major customer.

Lancaster Lens Company acquired a controlling interest in Indiana Glass in 1957, but Indiana Glass remained a separate entity.

By the 1960s, Indiana Glass Company became a subsidiary of Lancaster Colony Corporation.

Sales surged in the 1970s, and they marketed tableware through Lancaster Colony’s Tiara Exclusives.

The Dunkirk plant operated until November 2002 when it closed
