Important Book Piece Zuni att Walter Nahktewa Large Arrow Channel Inlay Tie Clip:
$799.00

Welcome!

I\'m offering a very hard to find early tie clip dating to 1940s to 1950s and attributed to the great Zuni artist Walter Nahktewa, being almost identical to a piece published in a book and attributed to him. This is an unusual tie clip which can enclose a tie or a scarf! A woman could wear it with a scarf very comfortably.

This piece is channel inlay set with red abalone, and all natural stones and shells, including jet, mother of pearl and turquoise It is fabulous work and the stones are stunning. The dimensions are 3\" long and 3/8\" wide and the weight of the piece is 6.5 grams. It is in excellent vintage, wearable and collectible condition.

This piece comes from the collection of a couple of ethnologists who spent from the 40s-60s with the tribes and who collected the best items, some of which ended up in the Denver Museum.

I discussed this artist with a dear friend, now gone. She said \"Walter Nakhtewa did a lot of work for C. G. Wallace in the early days---contemporary work with the rest of the famous early guys--Leekya, Eskiesosie, the Hoxie brothers, Dan Simplicio, Lee Edaakie, Juan Calavaza, Della Casa-Appa, Coonsis, George Martinez, Mary Kallestewa, Juan DeDios, Horace Iule, Leo Poblano. He was right in there. Walter did some plain silver work but he was also very good at inlay. He never did careless inlay as some of the famous ones sometimes did. Walter did a lot of inlay on shells, but a very high kind of art. For example, he and Leo Poblano and Lambert Homer, Jr. did those lovely, modernistic-looking, stylized birds and other figures in inlay. Walter was right in there with lovely designs, not traditional all the time, but original, and very fine workmanship. He was a mature artist when he became famous. He is greatly admired; a very traditional, principled man.\" You can see by this quote that she was describing this tie clip without having seen it. But maybe she had seen it. Well, this is it and it\'s your opportunity to have it. It is exquisite.

RED TAPE:

sales starting prices are often set low to encourage offerding, but if items don’t sell at initial sale the prices will be set more realistically.

Please consider marking me as a favorite seller so you can come back and check things out. Be sure to add me to your favorites list!

Take a look at my store.

Yes, I sometimes can take reasonable offers.

I request payment by PayPal in two days, but planned in advance of purchase, alternate payment methods and time payments can generally be arranged.

I generally ship same day. Domestic: FREE shipping with Tracking, and Signature Confirmation included on shipments over $749.

International buyers pay actual shipping cost if I’m shipping myself rather than using ’s Global Shipping service, and International buyers are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply. Please discuss changing shipping method prior to purchase. My shipping defaults to Express International, which is tracked and insured, but I can use Priority Mail International. It\'s less expensive and is also tracked. First Class International is no longer offered by the US Postal Service. I charge the actual shipping cost and since shipping to each country costs a different amount, I will charge a little extra and refund the exact difference once I can put your address in and print a shipping label. I am no longer shipping to Italy and China, but can make exceptions if you speak with me about it, especially if you are a prior customer.

I\'m no longer accepting returns having refunded $1350 for a bracelet I never received. Returns must be in the same condition they were shipped. If I make a significant mistake in a listing I\'ll always give you a full refund. The 20% restocking fee does not apply when the mistake is mine. I care that you\'re happy and about my accuracy, and will always stand behind my work. My attributions are guaranteed for my lifetime.

When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
