Important Best Early Zuni attr. Dan Simplicio Bolo Natural Morenci Turquoise:
$1950.00

Welcome.

WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT IT: ...an early masterpiece in the form of a bolo with hand made silver work that includes Dan Simplicio's prototypical stamped leaves and hand carved luminous natural Morenci turquoise with iron pyrite matrix as well as stamped frame, scalloped bezel and stamped snake with turquoise eyes. The wonderful hand carved top grade deep blue colored turquoise has considerable sparkly iron pyrite matrix. This is a bolo made in early times of the pre-Bennett closures, with hand made silver runners for the leather tie. It is all hand made silver including the old hand made tips which were later added along with a new leather tie. In the pictures above I've added other pieces of his most of which are available separately in my store. There are two of my other bolos of his, two of my bracelets of his, two of my rings of his included in the pictures.

This bolo probably dates to as early as the 1930's to 1940's, as there are organic pieces by him in the C. G. Wallace catalog dating to the 1930s. This piece is one of my favorites; it's spectacular. It's heavenly.

BACKGROUND: Dan Simplicio's work is in the C.G.Wallace catalog, and every important collection, gallery and museum. Dan Simplicio was one of C. G. Wallace's favorite smiths. He was versatile and prolific. His work was prominently featured in the 1975 Sotheby's sale of the C. G. Wallace collection. Truly a great master, his work commands top prices. Work of his is in the permanent collection of the Heard Museum in Phoenix and other museums. Dan Simplicio is credited for having been the first to use natural nuggets in his work. He was vastly talented and worked in many techniques and styles over the years; he was brilliantly creative and experimented with many styles and forms. He is one of the most important Zuni artists from the CG Wallace period and his naturalistic free form style of work has become one hallmark of that era. This piece is prototypical of his very best work and is a unique and exquisite example.

CONDITION: overall excellent wearable, vintage, collectible. This is a gorgeous and unique early example by one of Zuni's historically great silversmiths

• tie, end to end with tips 46"
• tips height 2-3/8"
• unsigned which is usual for those times but it is attributed with certainty to Dan Simplicio, Zuni
• the metal is unmarked which is usual for that period, but it's sterling at .925

SUMMARY: this is a fabulous early piece attributed to the great master silversmith, Dan Simplicio. It's sculptural in that it looks fabulous and very different from every angle. The organic and naturalistic style of this piece is very important as representative of his contribution to an entire era. The turquoise is highest quality and gorgeous, fantastic, as is the exquisite silver work which includes scalloped bezel, Dan Simplicio leaves, and a winding stamped snake with turquoise eyes. This bolo is simply fantastic and represents perfection of aesthetic beauty. It is perfect for the start or the end of any collection. The movement, the color play, every element is perfection. And it is entirely unique; his creativity was boundless and he never made another anything like this unique work of art.

International buyers pay actual shipping cost if I’m shipping myself rather than using ’s Global Shipping service, and International buyers are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply. Please discuss changing shipping method prior to purchase. My shipping defaults to Express International, which is tracked and insured, but I can use Priority Mail International. It's less expensive and is also tracked. First Class International is no longer offered by the US Postal Service. I charge the actual shipping cost and since shipping to each country costs a different amount, I will charge a little extra and refund the exact difference once I can put your address in and print a shipping label. I am no longer shipping to Italy and China, but can make exceptions if you speak with me about it, especially if you are a prior customer.

I'm no longer accepting returns having refunded $1350 for a bracelet I never received. Returns must be in the same condition they were shipped. If I make a significant mistake in a listing I'll always give you a full refund. The 20% restocking fee does not apply when the mistake is mine. I care that you're happy and about my accuracy, and will always stand behind my work. My attributions are guaranteed for my lifetime.

When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you're starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
