Eugene began carving kachinas full-time asan adult. He has developed a distinctive style that features rich colors andshading on his figures.His attention to detail is shown not onlyin his exquisite carving, but also in the costume and accouterments of thekachina. He has said that the Kachinas reflect his Hopi heritage in two ways;first from the way that they appear and also with their associated meanings.Eugene feels that the Hopi people are anintrinsically artistic culture. He typically signs his kachinas on the bottomwith crossed feathered arrows. Eugene has a large extended family of carvers,including his brothers Leon and Reginald Dallas.

The mesa's first Kaletaka appears only once in thisform during the Soyal. He accompanies Ahulani from a shrine east of the villageto the kiva where Ahulani later appears. Kaletaka carries a bow in his lefthand and arrows, an axe or a rattle in his right. His body is entirely blackwith white spots, and so should be his legs, except for the long knittedstockings. The shoulder straps he wears are stainedred.
