The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is an American, single engine, supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics, which changed to Lockheed Corporation, and is now Lockheed Martin. The aircraft was developed for the United States Air Force. The first official flight was on 02 February 1974. It was introduced into service on 17 August 1978. There have been over 4,600 manufactured and are still manufactured today in upgraded versions. The F-16 also serves in the air forces of 25 other countries.
The Belgium Air Force was founded as Belgium Military Aviation in 1909 and is the world's oldest air services. The arm was known as the Belgium Air Force until January of 2002 when the name was changed to The Belgium Air Component. The component currently has forty-three F-16A&B models in service. The have thirty-four Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning ll's on order.
This aircraft was involved in the Belgium F-16 Solo Display Team from 2015-2017. It was piloted by Comandant Tom "Gizmo" de Moortel, from the 31st Squadron "Tigers". The unit was based at Kleine-Brogel Air Base in Belgium. This aircraft (FA-123) was given an MLU M6.1 update, making it the most modern F-16 in the Belgium Air Force. It was given a special paint scheme that was named "Blizzard", and in turn, the call sign "Blizzard" was assigned.
