NED SKELDON STADIUM

Ned Skeldon Stadium, located in Maumee, Ohio, near Toledo, was a historic baseball venue that opened in 1965. The stadium was named after Ned Skeldon, a local newspaper editor and civic leader who was instrumental in bringing minor league baseball back to the Toledo area. With a seating capacity of approximately 10,197, Ned Skeldon Stadium was known for its cozy and nostalgic atmosphere, providing an intimate setting for baseball fans to enjoy the game.

The primary tenant of Ned Skeldon Stadium was the Toledo Mud Hens, the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The Mud Hens played at the stadium from its opening in 1965 until 2002. The stadium became synonymous with the Mud Hens, who are one of the most storied franchises in minor league baseball. Over the years, many future major league stars and beloved local players honed their skills at Ned Skeldon Stadium, contributing to the rich history and tradition of the team. The stadium\'s old-school charm, complete with its natural grass field and classic grandstand, made it a favorite among fans and players alike.

In addition to hosting the Mud Hens, Ned Skeldon Stadium was used for various other events, including high school and college baseball games, concerts, and community gatherings. Despite its relatively modest size, the stadium played a significant role in the Toledo area\'s sports and entertainment landscape for nearly four decades. In 2002, the Mud Hens moved to the newly constructed Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo, marking the end of an era for Ned Skeldon Stadium. The old ballpark remains a cherished part of local history, remembered fondly by those who experienced its unique charm and the many memorable moments it hosted.
