Single Decade Rosary

This pretty single decade rosary is dedicated toone of our newest saints, the beautiful and humble St Rebecca or Rafqa, who has been called the Little Flower of Lebanon and the Lily of Himlaya, who is a patron of the elderly, sick, blind, widowed and orphaned.

The 1\" oval gold-toned medal has a full color picture of St Rafqa on the front and a textured back. The medal was handmade in France; the 1-1/2\" silver-toned crucifix wasmade in Italy; and the chaplet itself was designed and handmade in the USA by me.

The 10 Hail Mary beads are 8mm,genuine Czech glass beads, fire-polished and faceted, in alternating amethyst purple and lilac colors. The Our Father bead is a purple glass pearl.

St Rafqa was born in 1832 in Lebanon to Christian parents. Her mother died when she was young and her father sent her away to work as a domestic to help the family. When she returned home after 4 years, her father had remarried and the families of both her step mother and father suggested possible marriages for her; but when she prayed to God for help deciding, she felt the call to religious life. St Rafqa served in various places as a novice, in a seminary kitchen, as a teacher, etc, before finally taking vows as a Maronite nun. She and her fellow nuns started a school for girls and they did other good works; there is a great deal about this amazing woman on the internet. A mystic who received messages from Jesus and the saints, St Rafqa had a kind of stigmata in the form of pain in the head and eyes; attempted surgery resulted in the loss of one eye; she eventually was totally blind and paralyzed; bedridden, she still was able to use her hands to knit socks! There are similarities to St Theresa the Little Flower in that St Rafqa, or Rebecca in English, was soft-spoken, rarely spoke, yet was always joyful even when faced with difficulties and suffering. She died in 1914. She was declared a saint by Pope St John Paul II in 2001 and is yet another wonderful middle east saint in the Catholic Church and popular with the Maronite rite within the Church. She is the patron saint of the elderly, the sick, blind, widowed and orphaned.
