This is a BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE hand carved soapstone hippopotamus from Kenya from the 1990s. The hippo is carved out of soapstone and then dyed to be a smoky dark blue color. It is hand painted with African designs. This hippo is small. It is 3.75 inches long, 2.5 inches tall and 2 inches wide. It is AMAZINGLY CARVED and beautiful. This item is in EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION! There are no major chips, cracks or discoloration. There is one small chip on the bottom of the back foot that is not visible from above (see second to last photo) and there are a couple of minor scratches on one side of the hippo (see last photo).
