Description from Nate D. Sanders Catalogue : Humphrey Bogart autograph, signed at the height of his careerwhen he was married to Mayo Methot and madethe film "Casablanca", "The High Sierra" and "The Maltese Falcon".Bogart signs "Humphrey Bogart" on an album pagebelow the inscription of his wife who writes, "To Frank / Mayo Methot Bogart".Minor toning to edges and small chip to the top, overall in very good condition.

Humphrey DeForest Bogart : (1899-1957) Nicknamed "BOGIE", was an American Film and Stage Actor. His performances inClassic Hollywood Cinema made him anAMERICAN CULTURAL ICON. In 1999 The American Film Institute selected Bogart asTHEGREATESTMALE STAR OF CLASSIC AMERICAN CINEMA.
On August 21, 1938, Bogart entered a turbulent third marriage to actress Mayo Methot,a lively, friendly woman when sober butparanoidand aggressive when drunk.

She became convinced that Bogart was unfaithful to her (which he eventually was, with Lauren Bacall, while filmingTo Have and Have Notin 1944).They drifted apart;

Methot's drinking increased, and she threw plants, crockery and other objects at Bogart. She set their house afire, stabbed him with a knife, and slashed her wrists

several times. Bogart needled her; apparently enjoying confrontation, he was sometimes violent as well. The press called them "the Battling Bogarts".

According to their friend,Julius Epstein, "The Bogart-Methot marriage was the sequel to theCivil War".

Bogart filed for divorce from Methot in February 1945.
The breakthrough from supporting roles to real Stardom came with High Sierra in (1941) and The Maltese Falcon (1941).
