HTF Vintage Milk Glass 1930s Fort Howard Handinap Napkin Holder Green Bay Advert:

One hard to find, vintage 1930-40s milk glass napkin holder. It is advertising Fort Howard Handinap Napkins of Green Bay, Wisconsin. These napkin holders were distributed to restaurants and soda fountains free by Fort Howardto hold the Fort Howard Paper Company’s paper napkins, if the establishment bought their napkins exclusively. Napkin holder is 4-5/8” long x 2½” wide x 4” tall. Both sides have this advertising in raised lettering:

This napkin holder is in very good condition overall. It has no chips, but there are some manufacturing flaws.

One is an embedded impurity on the rim that is perfectly smooth (pics 3&4). Another one, near the first one, is a dark area in the milk glass above Fort (pics 3&4).

Another is something embedded in the glass in the corner at the bottom inside of the napkin holder (pics 7&11).

There is also superficial crack on the curved top that starts with the impurity dot and goes over the curve and stops at the trim line inside (pic 8,9,10). This crack is not deep into the milk glass.

There are white line/swirls in the glass and a couple more dots of impurity.

All of these occurred during manufacturing at the factory. Remember that these were cheaply made to be given away to the Fort Howard customers and back then there were not many quality controls for manufacturing.

This is not as bad as I make it sound. I just like to point out everything that most would let you discover after you bought. It has been in this condition since the day it was made, not abused in use. This is really a neat piece and can be used for many things other than napkins and there is one undamaged side for display.
