The author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, pens this quotation for a fan, dated in 1885
Autograph Quotation Signed: "HB Stowe", 3½x2 card. Dated by Stowe: "Oct 2 1885". In full: "Trust in the Lord & do good/In all thy ways acknowledge/Him/And He shall direct thy steps". Encouraged by her brother, Brooklyn Pastor Henry Ward Beecher, and her husband, Calvin Elias Stowe, Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin, or Life Among the Lowly. First published as a serial in an antislavery newspaper, the "National Era", in 1851-1852, the book became an important factor in solidifying sentiment in the North against slavery. Stowe's heart-wrenching portrayals of slaves made the issue a moral one and had much to do with bringing on the Civil War. The story was dramatized and was first performed on stage at Troy, New York on September 27, 1852, where it ran for 100 nights. Slightly stained at lower blank margin. Mounting glue and remnants on verso (no show through). Fine condition.See more material from these signers:HARRIET BEECHER STOWE See more listings in our AUTHORS (1,653) category.
