Hand woven in Uzbekistan, this silk ikat fabric is a 100% silk & natural. The Fergana Valley is world renowned for Ikat textiles. Ikat is a fabric patterned by binding the warp threads to resist dye prior to weaving. Also termed abr ( Persian-cloud or cloud like). The process of patterning by resist dying the warps. In Uzbekistan they cultivate their own cotton and silks and use their own traditional hand processes to dye the silk threads. They obtain the dyes from fruits, nuts and plants. They utilize traditional looms to produce these spectacular fabrics. The fabrics are used in Central Asia to make ladies dresses, outfits, scarves and Interior draperies. In recent years, these designs have been introduced and integrated by fashion and interior designers in the west. The pattern repeats itself approx every 36"- 39". The fabric has a subtle natural silk sheen. Colors - Blueish silver gray background/ plum, yellow, teal, dark earth brown.

This is a superb piece of fabric. Fine, delicate, soft, supple and lightweight.
