Hallstead is a borough in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania with a population of 1,303 at the 2010 census. It was settled in 1787. What is now Hallstead was incorporated as Great Bend Village in 1874 and was renamed, in 1887, to Hallstead in honor of William F. Hallstead, president of the Delaware Lackawanna, and Western Railroad. The boroughs of Hallstead and nearby Great Bend are bisected by both Interstate 81 and the Susquehanna River. The card captures Hallstead High School the year before it burned down. I have also posted a card that shows it before and after. The card is a UDB, credited to the “Herald Post Card Co., Hallstead” and is post marked 1905. It is in good condition with minor wear on the corners and edges except for a small tear upper edge, middle. The image is clean and clear. The reverse looks to have a stamp missing and some staining on the left.
The colors on the images are a more neutral Light Sepia than the scan.Unless otherwisenoted, I use Wikipedia and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated.
