This is a card published by “J.N.Chamberlain” of ahistoric Miami hotel. The HalcyonHall Hotel was built by Salem and Emily Graham who had managedseveral hotels in Miami and dreamed of building a hotel that would compete withHenry Flagler’s Royal Palm Hotel.In 1904 they purchased land at the corner of Twelfth Street and AvenueB (Flagler Street and NE Second Avenue), and the hotel was tospan an entire block north to Eleventh Street.

The first shovel in the ground was March 18, 1904,and the official opening was January 20, 1906.The hotel was a five-story building of 144 rooms which featured mahoganyfurniture and polished hard wood floors. Each room included electric lights,steam heat and a telephone. The firstfloor was devoted to stores, offices, and recreational rooms, including a billiardsroom and a bowling alley. In 1907 thebank that financed the hotel collapsed and the Grahams had to sell theirdream. They were only in the hotel for ayear and ended buying another hotel, the Gralynn Hotel on 134thSW First Avenue.

The Halcyon Hall Hotel had an up and down history afterthat with many owners until in 1937 it was decided by a bank to demolish the building to build a more modern skyscraper that becamethe Dupont Building.

It is, however, still on this postcard that looksto be c 1910s and is in good condition with minor wear and a clean, clearimage. The reverse is also clean.
