This is a rare black Gutta Percha Double 1/9 Plate Union Case (B1-48) “Children playing with Toys” with 2 Id’d Ruby Ambrotype photographs from the Civil War era. The photographs depict husband and wife, and the case is in good condition with 2 very minor cracks or scratches. The two Ruby ambrotype photographs have some oxidation and a couple minor scratches on each, not affecting the subject. The foil mat and preservers are in very good condition. They are identified on the front of the image, on the back of the image and inside the case in old ink as George F, Henry and Elizabeth Henry. George born January 10, 1836, Elizabeth Born, February 22, 1844 . Behind George’s image it reads “ Property of [son] George B. Henry Leb[anon county] Pa. There is a George Henry from Lebanon County, Pennsylvania who served in the 4th Penns. Cavalry and were present during the Gettysburg campaign. Company F was raised in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Additional research could confirm this George Henry being that individual. He would have been 26 years old. This case was manufactured in the United States and is an original piece from the period. It is a must-have for any photography collector.
