Golden West Brand. This ultra rare vintage early (1900-1910) stone lithograph orange crate label features a cloudless globe of the Earth spinning on its axis in space against a backdrop of stars, illuminated from the left by sunlight with the Western hemisphere facing us complete with polar ice, mountain ranges in relief, and transcontinental railroad lines - the very means by which oranges were brought to Eastern-US markets. This artwork is remarkable in that it shows us the Earth as seen from space long before such a photograph would eventually be made! This is one of the most striking and unusual images ever to grace a California orange crate label. The design certainly fulfilled the main purpose of the label: identify the brand in a graphic, easily remembered manner.This label is vintage - not a copy and is in like-new condition but with 1/2\" paper peeled off back at lower left corner, otherwise Excellent!The image shown in this listing is a high-quality accurate-color scan of the actual label that is for sale.Golden West Brand Label version 1 of 3.
