Our client's German gold snuff box with blue enamel features a portrait of Napoleon byJean-Baptiste Isabey (1767–1855). 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 by 5/8 inches. Weight: 135 g, 4.76oz, 4.34 troy oz. Hallmarks on the underside include a lion rampant, maker's mark that is heavily worn and assay mark. Item L-328. Item sold as-is. All sales final. Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767–1855) was born in Nancyand arrived in Paris in 1785 where he was briefly studied withJacques-Louis David. He soon was acquanted with theBeauharnais family andthereafterto the Emperor. He isconsidered the master of the early-19th-century French miniatures. His works can be found in museums around the world.
