This award was given on the 23rd. April 1905 by King Friedrich August III. donated for meritorious achievements. Those honored had a rank from sergeant down to soldier or, as civilians, were equivalent to these ranks. From April 8, 1910, women could also receive awards. From May 22, 1916, the same ribbon clasps as the Carola Medal were awarded for services in the war.
