Gerald Rudolph Ford Lynch King Jr.; July 14, 1913– December 26, 2006) was an American politician who served as the 38thpresident of the United Statesfrom 1974 to 1977. He was the only president never to have been elected to the office of president or vice president. He previously served as the leader of theRepublican Partyin theHouse of Representatives, and was appointed to be the 40thvice presidentin 1973. When PresidentRichard Nixonresigned in 1974, Ford succeeded to the presidency, but was defeated for election to a full term in1976.

Born inOmaha, Nebraska, and raised inGrand Rapids, Michigan, Ford attended theUniversity of Michigan, where he was a member of the school\'sfootball team, winning two national championships. Following his senior year, he turned down offers from theDetroit LionsandGreen Bay Packers, instead opting to go toYale Law School.[2]After theattack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in theU.S. Naval Reserve, serving from 1942 to 1946; he left as alieutenant commander. Ford began his political career in 1949 as theU.S. representativefromMichigan\'s 5th congressional district. He served in this capacity for nearly 25 years, the final nine of them as theHouse minority leader. In December 1973, two months after the resignation ofSpiro Agnew, Ford became the first person appointed to the vice presidency under the terms of the25th Amendment. After the subsequent resignation of President Nixon in August 1974, Ford immediately assumed the presidency.

As president, Ford signed theHelsinki Accords, which marked a move towarddétentein theCold War. With the collapse ofSouth Vietnamnine months into his presidency,US involvement in the Vietnam Waressentially ended. Domestically, Ford presided over the worst economy in the four decades since theGreat Depression, with growing inflation and arecessionduring his tenure.[3]In one of his most controversial acts, he granted apresidential pardon to Richard Nixonfor his role in theWatergate scandal. During Ford\'s presidency, foreign policy was characterized in procedural terms by the increased role Congress began to play, and by the corresponding curb on the powers of the president.[4]In the 1976 Republican presidential primary campaign, Ford defeated former California GovernorRonald Reaganfor the Republican nomination, but narrowly lost thepresidential electionto theDemocraticchallenger, former Georgia GovernorJimmy Carter. Surveys of historians and political scientists have ranked Ford as a below-average president.[5][6][7]

Following his years as president, Ford remained active in the Republican Party. His moderate views on various social issues increasingly put him at odds with conservative members of the party in the 1990s and early 2000s. In retirement, Ford set aside the enmity he had felt towards Carter following the 1976 election, and the two former presidents developed a close friendship. After experiencing a series of health problems, hedied at homeon December 26, 2006, at age 93.

......Shipping and Packaging details: I ship everything with cardboard backing. Additionally, I slip all autographed photos inside sturdy photo-protective sleeves. Payment details: Typically, I ship paypal payments right away. PAYPAL is recommended.International shipping will be higher as all international orders go through the Global Shipping program. How I obtained my autographs, and why I promise a FULL MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE: As a kid, from roughly the years 1965 to 1973, and later from 1974-the present, I have amassed an enormous collection of autographed sports and celebrity memorabilia. In most cases, using Jack Smalling\'s baseball address lists and other assorted address lists, I wrote to both active and retired baseball players, sending them letters, requests for signatures, and self-addressed-stamped envelopes. This is how I obtained thousands of autographs. I also obtained many autographs in person at area parks and hotels. In the 1980\'s and 1990\'s, I travelled the country doing shows (20 National Conventions) and would buy quantities of autographs through player signings. I have every reason to believe that all of the autographs I\'m selling are absolutely authentic. I stand by every item I sell. Upon purchasing an item from me through , you may return that item, in the condition in which I shipped it to you, within 14 days of receipt of that item if you are not satisfied with the item. I am selling each item \"as is\", per the guarantee I\'ve promised above. All the old time autograph dealers know me and the professional authenticators will vouch for my reputation as well. I do this on a part time basis, so sometimes emails take a day. I have worked hard for my response rating. The last thing I want to do is damage my credibility, so if you have legitimate concerns about any item you win from me on , I\'ll make every effort to remedy the situation to your satisfaction. PLEASE NOTE: Most items come with certificates of authenticity from outside companies (JSA and PSA predominantly; they are the best). I have spent lots of money with third party authenticators and have had very few come back without passing. Sincerely, Joe Binder , Downers Grove, Illinois
