General George Smith Patton Jr. [1885 1945] was a senior officer of the United States Army who commanded in the Mediterranean and European theaters of World War II but is best known for his leadership of the U.S. Third and Seventh Armies in France and Germany following the Allied invasion of Normandy in June of 1944. Patton began his military career in 1909 and served in the Mexican Revolution Campaign. During World War I he was assigned the task of establishing the AEF Light Tank School and then led his unit, the newly formed 304th Tank Brigade into battle at the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and was wounded in battle. During World War II Patton was considered to be the best and most aggressive Army commander in the European theater of war. On December 8, 1945, Patton's vehicle collided with an American army truck and while his injuries where at first considered minor, Patton died on December 21, 1945. At his request he was buried with his fellow soldiers at the American Cemetery in Luxembourg. Listed for sale is a stunning display which contains an authenticated war dated autograph of General George Smith Patton. The autograph is signed on a transmittal envelope from the War Department. The letter is addressed in the top left corner, [not in the general's hand] Lt. Gen. G.S. Patton, Jr. H.Q. 7th Army. The envelope is postmarked Jan 8, 1945, U.S. Army Service and is marked ''Free''. The signature is signed ''censored G.S. Patton Jr. Lt. Gen'' in black fountain pen. The signature is bold, easily read and displays nicely and has been authenticated by JSA Authentication and will be accompanied with the above Letter of Authenticity. The transmittal envelope measures 9.00 x 4.00 inches, other than trivial toning it is in fine condition. The display is centered around a wonderful color military World War II portrait [8.00 x 10.00 inches] of the general. Mounted below the autograph is a professionally engraved metal bio plaque which is engraved with an actual quote from the general and the plaque reads as follows, ''George S. Patton November 11, 1885 - December 21, 1945. General of The United States Army. ''A good plan violently executed right now is far better than a perfect plan executed next week''. Mounted at the top is a pair of general's gold stars [quality reproduction] a pair of gold U.S. emblems [quality reproductions] along with a United States Seventh Army military patch which coincides with the handwritten Seventh Army printed address. The display itself is stunning and has been professionally assembled and triple matted in all acid free materials as follows. The outer matte is a unique green which has been accented with a gold and a dark green inner matte. The display has been assembled in a quality distressed brown/black wood frame to the dimensions of 25.00 x 19.00 inches. This is a wonderful authentic example of this prominent American general, authenticated, war dated, and the presentation is absolutely stunning and ready to be displayed in your collection.
