ROYALHOUSE ORDER OF HOHENZOLLERN COMMANDERS CROSS WITH SWORDS

TheHohenzollern Commander's Cross was awarded for military action, the versionwith swords for bravery in combat. Itwas given to the highest ranks. The award was established in 1851 by KingFrederick William IV of Prussia. The commandersgrade was awarded from 1864 to 1918.

Thisreproduction consists of gilded cross with arms with rounded ends. The crossarms are white enamel with a black border.

Thecenter of the front and back has a round medallion with motto andinscription. Between the arms of thecross and around the medallions a green enameled laurel (left side) and oak leaf (right side) wreath. The front of the medal has crossed swords.

At thetop of the cross arm is a gold-plated Prussian royal crown.

The medalcomes with 12 inches of the appropriate 55 mm ribbon. The dimensions are 97 mm high and 65 mm wide.

Seller'snote: The original medals had a verticalmetal bar behind the crown through which the ribbon would be run. Our reproduction isquite heavy (105 g.) and we have not been able to replicate this methodsuccessfully - the bar often came loose.Instead we mounted a ringon the orb of the crown through which an oval loop is attached for the ribbon.This ring can be removed. Keep in mind that many ofthe originals were made of solid gold, the weight of the medal being only around36 grams, hence the bar method of attachment was adequate.
