The Order of the Black Eagle was established by theElector of the German state of Brandenburg in1701. He would soon become the firstking of Prussia – Frederick theFirst. The award was Prussia’shighest. The next lower award is the RedEagle. The Order of the Black Eagle was both a military and acivil award.This beautiful replica is the breast star of the order. It has the Prussian eagle in the medallionand the motto of the order, “Suum Cuique” – to each his own.Since the breast stars were made by jewelers, there werea number of variations. My replica is a silver (plated) eight-pointedstar with rays, a popular motif.It weighs 2.8 oz. (78 grams) and measures 9 cm across.It has a pin and catch mechanism verysimilar to the originals and the workmanship is superb.
