This weighs 6.70 ounces or 190 grams. This is an old classic Harz Mountains specimen of Galena with minor Siderite and very minor Quartz from Neudorf, Harz, Germany. This has LUSTROUS silver-colored Galena crystals with small Siderite crystals in several places and tiny micro Quartz crystals. The quartz crystals are so tiny that you\'ll probably need a loupe to even see them. The galena crystals have an odd sheen to them that isn\'t showing up in the photos all that well. The sheen is caused by way of tiny growth hillocks on the surface of the galena. This sheen or play of light is quite noticeable and very attractive. The galena crystals themselves show a variety of crystals forms. In fact, this odd shape from this locality is known as the \"NEUDORF HABIT\". After looking up the Nuedorf locality I was surprised to learn just how highly the specimen from the Harz Mountains are prized. These usually command crazy-high prices. Like, $1500 high prices for small specimens. While I didn\'t see any specific Galena from Neudorf here on (it\'s that rare), the siderite and quartz specimens were a minimum of $100+ for tiny specimens. A galena specimen from this locality is truly rare and a real prize to own. From reading on the locality in Mindat it seems the mine closed in 1903. The odds are very good that this specimen was collected in the late 1800\'s just before the turn of the century. This is a nice cluster and is from a classic historic locality and galena specimens from there are rarely offered for sale in modern times. I\'ve priced this to be the best buy forNuedorf Galenaon ! By all means, do take a look at the competition. You probably won\'t even find a galena or galena + siderite specimen for sale here but you\'ll see expensive siderite + Quartz specimens at very high prices relative to size. Compare apples to apples and note the size and weight of this specimen, coupled with it\'s appearance and features and I think it\'ll be clear that the best bang for your buck is this one right here.
