Franco-Prussian War French Military Sculpture by Aristide-Onsime Croisy WWI WW1:
$275.00

Wonderful late 1800\'s sculpture depicting an armed French soldier in a gallant pose. This piece was designed by famous French sculptor Aristide-Onsime Croisy (1840-1899), whose work is quite well known. In the late 1800\'s the American firm of Bradley & Hubbard began manufacturing these as a mate to a sailor sculpture by the same artist. Rather than bronze, this was injection-molded in spelter or regulus, which is correct for those reproduced from the original bronze by Bradley & Hubbard in the 1890\'s. As you can see, the soldier\'s musket has broken off, which is common with delicate appendages in this medium. This would have originally sat upon a wooden base with a plaque entitled \"INFANTRY\", which is no longer present. Nonetheless, an exceptional looking sculpture that would would look great in the war room!

Measures approximately 12\" tall, base measures approximately 7 1/8\" x 5\".

The sculpture remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. Age patina and oxidation is evident, as are areas of verdigris and corrosion. Musket is missing the upper section, and the bottom of the sculpture is missing its wooden base. When sitting on a table, it does not sit perfectly flat. Please see the pictures for more detail.
