The specimen Phylloceras, an ammonoid of small size, shows very well the anatomy of phragmacone. The phragmacone exhibits excellent suture patterning, a product of the absorption of localised minerals in the fossil bedding plane. At this location, quartz and calcites heavily influence these. A well-fossilised ammonoid preserved chamber and the exterior phragmacone all make this a highly collectable fossil.

The robust, highly mineralised ammonite displays excellent morphology of the involute phragmacone or shell.

Genus: Phylloceras sp.

Origin: Mahajanga, North West Madagascar

Age: Mesozoic era, Cretaceous period, Aptian age, approx 120,000,000years.
