Description: [Florida][Natural Disaster] Great Miami Hurricane of 1926 Photo Album

Commercial string-tied photo album with faux leather decorative cover. 62 photos. Moderate soiling and wear to covers. Photos tipped in with photo corners. Interior is clean and neat. Some annotations yet very generic. Album is about 1/3 used. 8 photos laid in. Photos measure 3 5/8 x 4 1/2 inches and 2 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches. Very Good Condition.

Superlative snapshot album documenting the \"Great Miami Hurricane of 1926\". Despite its well-known name, the hurricane left a path of destruction throughout the Caribbean, a good portion of southern Florida and Alabama and Mississippi. According to several sources, the 1926 storm may be the costliest United States hurricane on record when adjusted to 2024 dollars.

The storm also shut down the southern Florida land boom and ushered in an early start to the Great Depression in Florida.

In surveying these 62 photos, views alternate from sheer destruction to family photos on vacation, as if nothing had occurred. Images include the photographer attending an auto race, a well-appointed gentleman with his car and typical posed images at the shore. One can imagine a family on vacation when the storm strikes but goes on to enjoy their stay as best as they can. All the photos in the album are presented here. Photographer is unknown.

One especially poignant photo shows a woman surveying a makeshift outdoor market surrounded by destruction. Other images show flattened buildings, flooded streets, beached boats and ruined homes. Very Good / None.
