This is a stunning handpainted enameled porcelain plate made in China. It is a deep plate, with slightly scalloped edges with traditional Chinese elements handpainted. The detailed painting and shading of the elements is fabulous. The center of the plate has circling bats, considered good luck in China. There are fruits including a pomegranate and greenery. On the outside of the plate are 4 red bats painted, evenly spaced.

This backstamp is the mark of the emperor of the Jiaqing dynasty from 1796-1820. However, this type of plate was made to honor an Emperor and Dynasty of the past, it is not that old. I have seen this exact plate, with a sticker on the back, “made in Shanghai China”. According to gothberg.com, this plate with backstamp was made recently, probably in the 1980’s.

This is a beautiful plate with handpainting and shading and lovely elements. The plate is 9 inches in diameter and weighs 1 pound 5 ounces. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
